Selected Work and Maker's Fair Submissions
Theme
The theme for the festival this year is PERSPECTIVE. This theme celebrates one of the best parts of independent media: that creators can use online platforms to share their unique perspective to make exceptional work. It also suggests a danger of independent media: that self-reinforcing algorithms can draw us into an echo chamber where we only see our own views reflected back at us. Finally, it reminds us that we have work to do in shifting the public’s perception of independent media. Is YouTube a dangerous and addictive entertainment site, or the world’s largest platform for human expression?
We’re looking for submissions that have a strong sense of perspective. Does your perspective make it exceptional? Are you tackling someone else’s perspective, or aiming to shift someone’s perspective? Maybe “perspective” is a subject of the piece, either through the topic or the composition. We want to know how your work plays with this theme.
Selected Work Screening
This year at IMI Fest, we’re excited to include a screening program featuring new and upcoming audio and video works! We’re looking for submissions of work that hasn’t premiered yet or hasn’t been widely seen or heard. This could be an upcoming episode or excerpt of your podcast or YouTube video or it could be something personal that you haven’t published yet but have always wanted to. It could also be something experimental that doesn’t totally fit into traditional audio or video categories. Works-in-progress are also eligible. Selected Work Submissions should be short – likely somewhere between 3-20 minutes.
Maker's Fair
Often creators spend countless hours building physical projects that only end up living in the virtual world. We want you to share the interactive and tangible thing that you built. It could be art, engineering, or just something cool. Projects can be small (fit on a table top) or large (a few square feet). We have some capacity to accommodate A/V needs, and may be able to help you bring the project to Austin.

Submissions are due October 18th. Selections will be made by November 1st. Makers work logistics will be decided on an as needed basis. finalized selected works must be submitted by November 8th.
